Crowdfunding for Victoria Hall

posted in: Conservation, Planning | 0

Members will recall the long-standing campaign to prevent the Victoria Hall being included in the lease deal between the Council and a hotel operator. As a reminder, more details are here.

A group of local residents has been fighting the sell-off, and will be in court next week to take on Ealing Council and the UK Government’s Charity Commission – both with apparently unlimited access to public money to pay for legal advice and barristers. The Council and the Commission have turned what should have been a simple, layman-friendly process into a big-budget battle of the barristers. They have produced hundreds of pages of references to other legal cases in an attempt to obscure the simple factual matters under review.

The Friends urgently need legal support as they make their final preparations and to support them in court. On Tuesday 14th February, they are launching a new fundraising push to cover their further legal costs. Can you set aside a few minutes between 9am and 10am on Tuesday 14 February to make a donation through the ‘crowdfunding’ platform they are using, to create momentum from the first day of this new campaign. Any amount is welcome – and if you can’t logon tomorrow morning, any time this week will do.

The Society would also like to know your views on the campaign and also whether you, as a member, would support the Society offering financial support from our reserves. Email Ann Chapman at chair@ealingcivicsociety.org.
