Town Hall history

Following our AGM on 10 April, Ealing’s last Borough Architect, Gavin Leonard, gave a talk about Ealing’s first Borough Architect, the Victorian polymath Charles Jones. Jones was responsible for designing the town hall, which despite being only Grade ll listed, has been described as the most important building in Ealing. Gavin described how its various extensions and additions tell the social history of Ealing: the meeting hall, baths and free library. Jones left some beautiful plans and drawings of the town hall which was completed in 1888 in the Gothic Revival style. Over 50 people attended the talk and we were particularly delighted that Jez Coad, Charles Jones’ great great grandson was able to be with us.
