2017 Awards

Our annual awards for good design in the Borough were presented this year by Steve Pound MP. Fortunately he has overcome his initial prejudice against architects which was instilled in him by his mother, mainly on the grounds that they wore suede shoes. He talked of the need to conserve the best of the past and to look forward to the future. He praised the work of the Civic Society and wished us another 50 successful years. We were urged to cherish and preserve the small gems of suburban style to be found everywhere in the Borough. Gavin Leonard, former Borough Architect, discussed  the 8 schemes shortlisted by our panel of judges: 2 were highly commended and 3 were commended. No scheme was considered sufficiently exceptional for the 2017 award. Full details and pictures of the 5 award winners are shown on our Awards pages.  In the picture (left) Steve Pound ponders a tricky question put by Bob Gurd, our chairman.
