ArchitectureOur Environment Committee looked at 24 planning applications to Ealing Council in October and November. A major redevelopment of the GlaxoSmithKline site and former Sunblest Bakery site in Greenford came in for some criticism although the Committee welcomed the development of the derelict site in principle, plus the inclusion of a school and doctors’ surgery. We objected to the high density and the excessive height of some of the blocks, the inward looking nature of the development and lack of parking spaces.  The Society also objected to the proposed overdevelopment of the Portal Land at Wales Farm Road and Portal Way in Acton, redevelopment of a site at Chiswick roundabout with its negative impact on several nearby conservation areas, the erection of a 5-6 storey building at 144-156 Uxbridge Road Hanwell near the Clock Tower Conservation Area, and redevelopment at Exchange Plaza 52-8 Uxbridge Road W5. Detailed comments and objections were submitted on a range of other schemes throughout the Borough.
