New CinemaFollowing an inquiry in April, Ealing Council has now been granted a compulsory purchase order by the Secretary of State. You can read the letter from the Secretary of State here, the full report here, and the addendum here. This will enable the Council to purchase the old cinema site from Empire Cinemas and to progress the creation of a “cultural quarter”, with shops, restaurants, homes and a 1,000 seater cinema operated by Picturehouse Cinemas. The Council’s press release on the latest development can be read here. This has been a long running saga since the closure of the Empire Cinema in 2008.
