Our wonderful hard working Secretary, Judy Harris, died on 15 August. Judy’s career in planning made her an extremely useful member of the Society’s Executive Committee. She had worked in planning policy at Ealing Council and had been involved in mapping open spaces during her career. Her detailed knowledge of the Borough and of planning procedures was invaluable to us. She scrutinised planning applications for the Society, and drew up comments to be submitted to the Council. She also appeared at several inquiries on our behalf, and did a lot of work on our annual award scheme.
Even when she was suffering from considerable pain towards the end of her life Judy was working hard for the Society, coming up with new ideas and fighting for causes she believed in. We will miss her company, her intelligence and her enormous contribution to our work.
