Acton History

Plaques WalkThere was a good turnout for a historic walk round Acton on 11 August, run jointly with Acton History Group. Different speakers talked about 3 historic plaques in the area. The first 2 plaques were installed by Ealing Civic Society: the bronze pavement plaque outside the original Waitrose shop and the recent Winnie the Pooh plaque on a wall at Twyford High School. Finally we saw an English Heritage plaque commemorating Richard Titmuss, the sociologist. On the way we saw the old Acton pump and the Eighteenth Century ice house built to serve the Woodlands estate. The walk ended with tea and cakes in St Martin’s Church. See our plaques page for more information.
