Ealing Broadway Station canopy delayed

We were promised by Crossrail in 2014 that we would get a new station in time for the opening of Crossrail (see picture). Now we can reveal that not only is the arrival of Crossrail delayed but also the new Ealing Broadway station frontage. Whilst the much delayed work on the rest of the station continues it has emerged that the improved design for the canopy which we campaigned for after criticising the original utilitarian design proposed by Crossrail cannot be constructed because the road bridge over the railway cannot carry the supports.  The Council tell us that Crossrail has put forward various new designs but so far they have rejected them all because they are so poor. The leader of the Council, Julian Bell, has written to both TfL and Crossrail to express his dismay about the continuing delays. Meanwhile, there is due to be a public consultation early in the New Year about the proposed public realm improvements in front of the station which themselves have been put on hold because of the continuing delays in the station construction.

Hochtief is now expected to be awarded the contract for constructing Acton Main Line, Ealing Broadway and West Ealing stations in the New Year.
