Whetnall unveilingThanks to the energy and persistence of Josette Bishop and funding from Ealing Council we have finally got a Society plaque for a distinguished woman. Dr Peter McKelvie, a retired surgeon from the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, who used to work with Edith Whetnall, unveiled a plaque in her memory at 8 Castlebar Hill on 22 May. In 1953 Edith Whetnall opened a hostel for deaf children in this home and did pioneering work in the field of deaf education. More information about Edith Whetnall which was prepared by Josette Bishop is available by clicking here.

The unveiling was attended by Rupa Huq MP, Steve Pound MP, and the Mayoress Harbhajan Kaur Dheer, pictured above with Josette Bishop (the house owner), Ealing councillors, Mike Tiley (ECS) and others. The plaque is shown in the plaques section of this website.
