Crossrail StationCrossrail has submitted proposals for major improvements to Ealing Broadway station.

The entrance and ticket hall would be replaced by a new glass structure that would let in much more natural light and be significantly more spacious. In addition, new lifts and staircases will make it easier for passengers to get around the station. While these changes would be an improvement upon the existing station they fall short of the original promised enhanced Crossrail station which would have included escalators. Also, we have reservations about the external appearance of the station which would be out of keeping with the neighbouring Town Centre and Haven Green conservation areas. We hope that improvements can be made to the external elevations even at this late stage. The plans have been criticised by Richard Rogers and Tessa Jowell according to a recent article in the Observer.

A summary of the proposals can be found on the Crossrail web site. Crossrail is expected to operate trains to/from Ealing Broadway from 2019. Our letter to the Council can be viewed here.
