Our sixth plaque was unveiled on Monday 20 May. It commemorates John Compton, a well known organ builder, who lived at 37 Audley Road from 1930 until his death in 1957. The John Compton Organ Company in North Acton manufactured pipe organs and subsequently electronic organs for cinemas, theatres and churches. The plaque was unveiled by John Compton’s granddaughter by adoption, Suzy Perkins (far right). This was followed by talks at the nearby Church of the Ascension, including one from Anita Compton (front of picture with folder) and a short organ recital on the 1947 Compton Electrone Organ by Richard Hills. A handout about John Compton and the unveiling celebrations was produced for the event. About 70 people attended, including the Deputy Mayor of Ealing, Cllr Tej Bagha.
